i have internet problems. you might have known, or you might not, but as a vnic user i can assign as many public ips from the oracle for myself as i like. AND i can use ALL OF THEM!!!!

NO MORE. after update from oracle linux (why did i choose oracle linux i am such stupid) 8 to 9, things broke. Temporarily. for example, the update deleted some software!!! but i managed to install some of them (that are needed) back.

idk as its a tough time. i dont get to keep track of everything.

internet problem before this:

i am pulling straight out of my brain, which a) does not like to remember, and b) its been long and i wasnt as good (not like im good now) so i might not have known things.

i remember this exact thing happening as i try to have multiple ips. some of them work, some dont.

i then do not know the ip route, so i might not have known where to do what to look for all that. the key for having multiple ips at the same time on different interfaces working is… metric. ip r metric. i didnt know

And then i got to use the legendary secondary vnic reconfigure shell script. installing that as a cron job using webmin, and life is insanely good. the script does thing magically and perfectly. i have all the vnics. but i still have to setup secondary ips by hand. it doesnt remember across reboots.

life is good and as i dont like living good life for some reason i updated to ol9. used leapp, uninstalled some apps to make it not CRITICAL but still Hard Problems. so basically i am on a very prone to breaking machine. reinstalled what is needed. mariadb. some php plugins. idk man.

internet problem NOW RN:

some time in ol9 i get a problem. the script no longer update / work? what is going on. internet seems to be problematic, as i have a specific ip for web serving and that is so down rn. i checked. so uh things do not go that way no more.

i did the sensible thing of useing the script to reconfigure! boom. more problems.

i use a vm instance with max of everything as the only oci instance. and as a Customer of the OCI the computer of mine have enough tracking to do OCI things. so we can reboot from the web and then do things from the web.

that seems to not work. so i dig a bit further. so the Metadata server is down for no reason.

Metadata server is kinda how you get things that is not just any linux computer specific but these vms from oci specific to be vms from oci. you get things to then manage / connect the resources from the web in the computer.
